# BRS is OpenUSD for BRL, and Why Open Assets matter

Today, Open USD by [@openstandard](https://x.com/openstandard) was announced with more than 140 of the largest companies in the world behind it. Visa, Stripe, Mastercard, BlackRock, BNY, Itaú, Mercado Libre. The news moved through the entire market in hours.

The headline was the logos. The real story was the model.

Open USD is not issued as one company's product. It is neutral. The reserve economics flow back to the businesses that distribute it. It is a stablecoin designed as shared infrastructure, not as a private balance sheet.

The biggest names in payments looked at the stablecoin market and reached the same conclusion. The winning dollar would not be owned by a single issuer. It would be an open asset.

We reached that conclusion earlier, from the other side of the continent, for a different currency.

Nora has been building $BRS on this exact model since before Open USD had a name. Not because we predicted the announcement. Because it is the only model that produces real network effect and a real ecosystem.

Here is what that means for the Brazilian Real.

## Neutral by design

A stablecoin that one neobank or ramp controls will never be adopted by the neobank next door. The incentive is wrong. You do not build your treasury on a competitor's balance sheet.

So BRS is not Nora's product. It is the market's asset.

Nora issues it. The reserves are transparent. The rules are public. But the asset itself is meant to be shared. Held by anyone. Distributed by anyone. Settled across the whole Brazilian onchain economy.

Neutral ground is the only ground that scales.

## The liquidity layer for Brazilian RWAs

Brazil is tokenizing. Credit, receivables, treasuries, real estate. All of it is moving onchain.

Tokenized assets need a settlement asset. A unit of account. A pair to trade against, lend against, and redeem into.

That asset should be the Real, and it should be open.

BRS is built to be the liquidity layer underneath Brazilian RWAs. The neutral Real that every issuer can plug into without asking permission from a competitor.

## A shared asset between onchain neobanks

The next era of Brazilian finance is being built by onchain neobanks. Each one needs Reais that move at software speed.

They do not need to issue their own. They need one shared standard, with economics that reward them for distribution.

This is the part we will announce piece by piece.

Revenue share for the networks that distribute BRS. A growing roster of authorized minters. A distribution network where every new participant makes the asset more useful for everyone already in it.

That is the network effect. The more neobanks share BRS, the stronger BRS becomes. And the stronger every neobank holding it becomes.

## The natural model

Open USD did not invent this. It confirmed it.

When the largest financial companies on earth build their stablecoin as an open, neutral, shared asset, that is not a trend. That is the shape the market takes once it matures.

Any stablecoin that wants real network effect will arrive at the same design. Open issuance. Shared economics. Neutral ground. A distribution network where every participant strengthens the asset for the rest.

The alternative is a product with a ceiling.

BRS is the Brazilian Real, as a shared asset. Open by nature. Standard by nature.

We started here. More soon.
